There really isn’t a lot of information regarding PaperStream Capture Pro out there on the Internet other than what the vendor puts out.  I invested a nice sum of money into this so I thought I’d put this out there in case someone else gets stuck.  If you are using metadata for your scans and you get to the output page where you can preview the QC and normally input your metadata into the respective fields and there are no fields there, fret not.  You have to change the view to All-In-One and this will bring the far right sidebar back where you can input your index/metadata information.

I just deployed a brand new Dell OptiPlex 7060 Tower for a client of mine.  This tower has an Intel Core i5, 16 GB of memory, 256 GB class 40 PCIe NVME SSD and Windows 10 Pro 64-Bit.

Unfortunately, there was a problem the next day after deploying it.  The client called to report that the power light would be blinking amber twice, pause and then once more which indicates  2,1 pattern.

I quickly Googled the diagnostic lights for the OptiPlex 7060 and found that this indicates a faulty motherboard.  Not good.  However, the weird thing is that if you unplug the power cable from the computer while it’s still on (computer cannot be turned off by hard powering it down by holding the power button for 3-5 seconds) and then unplugging it and leaving it off for a minute, plug it back in and turn it back on, it will power again on usually and without any issues.

I’ve run the full pre-boot diagnostics from Dell to no avail.  I’ve gotten their ProSupport tech support involved.  So far, we made sure that all drivers are up to date and the latest BIOS is installed.

I also installed a new APC UPS BR1500MS along with this computer.  I initially thought it was this that was causing it to happen, but this morning they reported that they tried unplugging it from the UPS and plugging it into the outlet and the computer still would not turn on.  It took them turning the computer back on, pulling the power cable out of the power supply and then leaving it off for a minute and then powering it back on.

There are no trouble symptoms while within Windows.  Everything runs perfectly fine and no errors or glitches.

I’m now waiting to hear back from Dell’s ProSupport team.  I’ll keep you all posted.

Update 4/8/2019:

I ended up contacting Dell ProSupport and they had me try several things, and upon none of them fixing the problem, they sent a new motherboard and a technician out to replace it. They replaced the motherboard on a Friday, and on Monday, the problem DID NOT RETURN. So, if you experience a weird issue where your new Dell OptiPlex 7060 powers on with a blinking amber light, two times and then once, you probably need a new motherboard.

I am going to make a bet with myself that this drive will die within six months.  I’ll report back in six months if the drive is still working and by working I mean being able to read disks properly.

I hadn’t seen a reputable optical disk drive/burner since the days when Plextor still made their own hardware and when Pioneer had a slot-loading DVD drive.

I’m not crossing my fingers on this one.  I’ve found that I don’t need optical drives all that much, but every once in a while I wouldn’t mind one out of convenience.

About a year or two ago I finally switched my web browser from Internet Explorer 11 to Chrome. Yes, I was an avid Internet Explorer fan, but the sluggishness and crap rendering made me finally make the move to Chrome. I actually use Firefox too, but primarily, everything is in Chrome.

One awesome thing that I really like with Chrome is that you can create a favorite folder in the favorite’s bar and drag and drop favorites into the folder. When you turn this flag to false: browser.bookmarks.openInTabClosesMenu, you can open up a folder, middle click on a favoreite and the folder stays open which then allows you to open up second, third, forth, fifth, sixth, however many links you want. Of course, you might tell me that I should just middle click the entire folder, but, what if I don’t want to open every single link inside the folder?

Besides, if Firefox can do this, Chrome should be able to too.

Another minor annoyance that Chrome does is opening up new links from the favorite’s bar and various websites open up in a tab at the very far right of your tab set. In Firefox, you can turn on a flag so that every time you open up a new favoritre, it iopens up to the right of your current tab. That’s what I want!
